The Official Weber County Inmate Roster
The Weber County Sheriff's Office runs the only official jail roster for the county. It is a free public tool, and it is the right place to start an inmate search. The Weber County inmate roster lets you search by last and first name and returns a list of people currently booked.
The roster comes with limits. Its terms of use say the page is informational, not suitable for legal documents or news reports, and not updated more often than once an hour. The official records are kept by the Sheriff's Office, not the website. So treat the roster as a quick check, then confirm anything important by phone.
How to Use the Weber County Jail Roster
The roster is built for a name search. You do not need a case number to start. Work from the steps below, and widen the search if a common name returns too many people.
- Open the Weber County inmate roster on the Sheriff's website.
- Type a last name in the Last Name field.
- Add a first name to narrow a long list of results.
- Click the Details link beside a name to open the full record.
- Read the booking date, charges, and bail on the detail page.
- Call the jail at 801-778-6700 to confirm a time-sensitive status.
If a name does not appear, do not assume a release. The person may have just been booked, may have been released, or may be listed under a different spelling. The roster updates no more than hourly, so a phone call is the surest confirmation.
Roster Search Fields and Result Columns
The search itself is simple. Two fields drive it, and the results come back in a fixed set of columns. The table below lists what the roster asks for and what it returns.
| Field / Column | Type | Notes / Format |
|---|---|---|
| Last Name | Search field | Optional text filter |
| First Name | Search field | Optional text filter |
| When Booked | Result column | Date shown as year-month-day |
| Last / First / Middle Name | Result columns | Shown in uppercase |
| Gender | Result column | Single-letter value |
| Age | Result column | Numeric |
| Details | Button / link | Opens the inmate detail record |
The result list is a summary. The full picture sits on the detail page behind the Details link.
How to Read a Weber County Inmate Detail Page
The detail page is where an inmate search pays off. It expands a single roster row into the booking record. The fields below come from an inspected Weber County detail page. The record did not show a public date of birth, home address, medical status, or housing pod.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Name | Last, first, and middle name |
| Case Number | Court case number field; can be blank |
| Booking Date | Intake date in year-month-day format |
| Age / Gender | Numeric age and single-letter gender |
| Height / Weight / Hair / Eyes | Physical descriptors in coded form |
| Charges | State statute charge descriptions |
| Bail / Fine and Remaining Due | Bail type, amount, and balance owed |
The Case Number field can be empty. A new booking may not have a filed court case yet, so check Utah Courts Xchange for the case once charges are filed.
Booking and Classification in Weber County
An inmate record starts at booking. After intake, staff tell the arrestee the charges and the bail needed for release. Bail may be cash only or bondable, and any holds are disclosed. A list of licensed bonding companies sits by each jail phone, and the arrestee can make a collect call to try to arrange release.
New inmates stay in Receiving and Orientation until they are classified. A classification officer interviews each person and weighs behavior, charges, and history. Weber County uses a six-tier system, with Level 1 the most restrictive. Classification can take up to 72 hours. During that time, collect calls are allowed, but visits and commissary purchases are not.
Some arrestees qualify for release without posting bail through a court-approved pretrial or own-recognizance program. That decision rests on verified ties such as a home address, a job, and roots in the community.
Bail, Bond, and Scam Warnings
Bail is the money or condition that secures release and a promise to appear. A bond is a financial promise, often through a surety company. The jail gives arrestees access to a list of licensed bonding companies.
Note: Weber County warns that scammers call families claiming a jailed relative needs bail by Venmo, PayPal, or Bitcoin, so hang up and call 801-778-6700 to confirm.
The Sheriff says plainly that it does not call families to say they can post bail and does not take those payment apps. Real bail runs through the court or the jail with approved methods only.
Arraignment and Court Dates
An inmate search often leads straight to a court question. After booking, inmates are scheduled for arraignment on the next court day, where charges are read and bail and plea issues come up. That hearing is where the criminal case formally begins.
The roster is not the best source for court dates. Confirm hearings through Utah court calendars, MyCase for parties, or Xchange. The Weber County court dockets page explains how to track hearings, and the court records page covers the full case file.
Weber County Jail Facilities and Capacity
Weber County runs its corrections work across two sites. The main correctional facility on 12th Street is the booking and housing center. The Kiesel facility handles work release, community service inmates, and weekenders. The main jail reports 888 beds across four pods, with 464 cell beds and 424 dorm beds, and more than 15,000 bookings a year.

Inmate Services, Mail, and Money
The jail runs several services that families ask about. Medical staff are on duty 24 hours a day. Inmates receive clothing, bedding, and hygiene items, and a library is available. Mail must come through the U.S. Postal Service, and only white prestamped or metered postcards are accepted. Envelopes, photos, and adhesive stamps are returned.
Friends and family may put money on an inmate's books at the jail lobby kiosk or online through the inmate deposit portal, and processing fees apply. Phone and email service runs through Securus, with prepaid or debit accounts for outgoing calls. Inmates buy approved commissary items once a week using trust account funds.
What the Weber County Roster Does Not Show
The roster answers one question: is this person in Weber County custody right now. It does not show a full criminal history, a court date, a release confirmation, or housing details. The inspected detail page did not reveal a date of birth, address, medical status, or protective custody.
For other custody questions, use the right tool. State prisoners are tracked by the Utah Department of Corrections, and federal prisoners by the Bureau of Prisons. The released inmates page covers those locators, and the jail population page covers capacity and facility data.
GRAMA Requests for Weber County Inmate Records
When the roster is not enough, official inmate and incident records come through the Government Records Access and Management Act, or GRAMA. The Sheriff handles these as law-enforcement records. The basic right to inspect public government records sits in Utah Code § 63G-2-201.
A GRAMA request has a response window, and the rules for filing and timing sit in Utah Code § 63G-2-204.
Copies carry a fee, and fee rules and waivers sit in Utah Code § 63G-2-203. To request a Sheriff report, file the electronic GRAMA request and attach a valid photo ID.
Private and Protected Inmate Records
Not every inmate record is public. GRAMA sorts records into classes, and two classes keep sensitive jail information out of public view. Private records cover personal materials, set out in Utah Code § 63G-2-302.
Protected records cover material that could harm an investigation or jail security, set out in Utah Code § 63G-2-305. This is why medical, security, and victim details are not on the public roster.
If the Sheriff denies a request, you can appeal. The appeal process sits in Utah Code § 63G-2-403, and the denial notice should explain the deadline.
