Utah's Court Clerk Structure
Utah does not use an elected county district clerk for court records the way some states do. The state runs a unified court system, so court case files are kept by the Utah state courts and the clerk staff at each courthouse. For Weber County, that means the clerk's office sits inside the Weber County - Ogden District Court.
This matters for any records search. The accurate path is Utah Courts for District Court and Justice Court cases, not a county-run clerk database. The county Clerk/Auditor is a separate office for county records. So the word "clerk" in Weber County points to two different places depending on the record.
The Weber County District Court Clerk
The District Court clerk staff handle case filings, court records, jury service, and certified copies of court documents. The local court is the Weber County - Ogden District Court at 2525 Grant Avenue. The clerk's counter is where you go for certified copies and in-person case questions.

Public terminals sit at most district court locations, so you can search public records in person without paying for online access. The Weber County court records page covers the online search tools.
How to Request a Certified Copy
A certified copy is the official version a court or bank will accept. An uncertified printout often will not do. Use the steps below to request a certified court record.
- Find the case number through Xchange or MyCase if you can.
- Use the Utah Courts Request a Court Record process for court files.
- Tell the clerk which document you need and that you want it certified.
- Pay the copy or certification fee from the Utah Courts fee schedule.
- For a county record, use the right county office GRAMA form instead.
The Utah Courts request process is separate from a county GRAMA form. A county GRAMA form does not replace it for District Court files.
The Weber County Clerk/Auditor
The county's own clerk office is the Weber County Clerk/Auditor. The current Clerk/Auditor is Ricky Hatch, a CPA elected to the office in 2010. The office works out of the Weber Center on Washington Boulevard and serves taxpayers directly, with a stated focus on service and responsible use of tax dollars.

Services on the Clerk/Auditor site include elections, financial reporting, marriage licenses, passports, property tax relief, and county records. This is the office for county business, not for District Court case files.
Marriage Licenses
Marriage licenses are a Clerk/Auditor record. The office issues licenses and runs a public search for older records. Records older than 75 years are public. Records within 75 years are vital records with limited access under Utah Code § 26B-8-125.
Divorce, by contrast, is a District Court case, so divorce decrees do not come from the Clerk/Auditor. The marriage and divorce records page explains both paths and who may request a recent marriage record.
County GRAMA Records
County records that are not online come through a GRAMA request to the Clerk/Auditor or the office that holds the file. The county form asks for a clear set of details, shown below.
| Field | What to Enter |
|---|---|
| Requester name | The person asking for records |
| Address / contact | Mailing and contact details |
| Records requested | A clear description of the records |
| Receive a copy | Checkbox if you want copies |
| Fee waiver | Checkbox tied to the fee statute |
| Signature and date | Request attestation |
The fee waiver box ties to Utah Code § 63G-2-203. The public records page walks through the full GRAMA process.
Passports and Elections
The Clerk/Auditor handles more than marriage and records. The office processes passport applications and runs county elections. Ricky Hatch has served on national and state election and county-clerk bodies, which gives the office a strong elections role.
These services sit alongside the office's financial reporting and tax duties. The Clerk/Auditor also publishes valuation notices, property tax relief programs, and tax sale information for the county. None of them touch District Court case files, though, which is the key point for a records search: county service does not mean court records.
Clerk Fees
Fees depend on which clerk holds the record. Court copies follow the Utah Courts fee schedule. County records follow GRAMA fee rules. Some online tools are free, and some carry a charge.
| Service | Cost Basis |
|---|---|
| MyCase for case parties | No fee |
| Xchange guest or subscriber search | Fee-based; see the Xchange fee page |
| Certified court copies and transcripts | Utah Courts fee schedule |
| County GRAMA copies | Set under Utah Code § 63G-2-203 |
Inspection of a public record is generally free. A certified copy for legal use carries a fee.
When to Contact Which Office
The two clerk offices handle very different work. Sending a request to the wrong one slows you down. The table below sorts common requests to the right place.
| You Need | Office |
|---|---|
| A District Court case file or decree | Weber County - Ogden District Court / Utah Courts |
| A marriage license record | Weber County Clerk/Auditor |
| A passport or election record | Weber County Clerk/Auditor |
| A certified court document | District Court clerk via Utah Courts request |
When in doubt, match the record to the office that created it.
The Second Judicial District
Weber County sits in Utah's Second Judicial District with Davis and Morgan counties. The District Court is the trial court of general jurisdiction, and the district page lists local forms, administrative orders, and court locations.
The Second Judicial District page covers Davis, Morgan, and Weber counties.
The District Court's broad jurisdiction is explained in the Utah Courts overview.
The Utah District Court overview describes the court the clerk supports. The Weber County District Court page goes deeper.
Court Directory and Locations
Utah Courts publishes a directory to find court locations and contacts. It lets you filter by court type, district, county, and city, which helps when you are not sure which clerk to call.
Start with the Utah State Court Directory.
The directory entry for the local court lists its address and phone.
The court's directory detail page gives the address and phone for the Ogden courthouse. For jury service, the clerk has a separate contact.
The Weber County jury clerk page handles jury questions. Juvenile cases have their own victim contact.
